TWO VOLUNTEER POSITIONS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE:
- MilKids Program Manager
- Logistics Manager
Blue Star Families is looking for a MilKids Program Manager who can volunteer about 10-20 hours a week! The Milkid Club Program Manager is a volunteer position ideal for someone who is looking to take on a leadership role. The Program Manager has primary responsibility of the development, implementation, daily operations and oversight of a new program supporting military kids. The Program Manager will work with the Director of Programs, military kids, their parents, and community leaders to manage the MIlkids Club program for Blue Star Families. Volunteer opportunity requires 10-20 hours per week.

Minimum of two years professional experience is required and experience with military lifestyle and challenges they continue to face in everyday life.
Essential Job Functions:
- Set Annual Program Goals and Objectives.
- Create a Bi-Weekly report to be submitted to the Director of Programs in a timely manner.
- Responsible for all Daily Operations including updating all marketing collateral and program updates using Members Connect, Social Marketing tools like Blogs, Facebook and Twitter.
- Participate in weekly call with the Director of Program and Program Team.
- Work with the Director of Program to develop a list of potential partners where relationships can be established for future collaboration on events and/or projects.
- Responsible for developing, Training Tools and Handbooks.
- Responsible for providing support needed by the Director of Membership, Chapters and BSF
- Complete proper event forms and expense reports.
- Communicate with military kids and their parents to recruit members to the council.
- Maintain all Milkid Club member information, BSF policy agreements and profiles.
- Work with our Director of Programs to identify events that will benefit Milkid Club members
- Manage and mentor the Milkid Club members
- Manage local Milkid Club Volunteers/Coordinators as we develop local, physical clubs in the future.
Attend community events (as needed) and help coordinate local Milkid Club events and event planning (online and physical) – including strategic development of goals and mission for the club. - Reach out to the community through public speaking at various events to raise awareness of BSF and its’ mission.
- Work with local military and community leaders to build partnerships.

Research Associate/Emphasis Military Spouse Employment
The research associate position is a volunteer position ideal for someone who is interested in military family policy and is looking to take on a leadership role. The Research Associate will work with the Director of Research and Policy and the rest of the research team to develop strategies in the area of military spouse employment. Volunteer opportunity requires 10-20 hours per week.
Essential Job Functions
- Research: Anything from fact-checking to long-term, in-depth research, to conceptualizing new projects.
- Writing:
Drafting project descriptions for the website and project materials.
Short analyses such as blog entries and commentaries.
Op-eds, journal articles, and co-authored/authored papers and reports, depending on skill level and interest. - Editing: proofreading (copyediting) and substantive editing.
- Administrative tasks, for example:
Scheduling and Compiling expense reports. - Attending internal meetings and representing BSF at outside events.
- Networking, messaging, and outreach.
- Staffing BSF activities as needed.
- Working closely with partner organizations in the area of military spouse employment – in research, project management, information sharing, etc.
Requirements & Other Desired Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field. Graduate work or related experience is a plus.
- Strong desire to build connection between military families and our community
- Strong desire to be an advocate for military spouse employment opportunities
- Access to computer
- Available to attend online training classes and conference calls as needed
- Be able to represent Blue Star Families in professional manner at all times both in person and via social media outlets
- A valid Drivers License or access to transportation for events
- Social Media skills
- Strong Organizational skills
- Leadership skills
- Flexible schedule, be available on some evenings and weekends for events
- Excellent Communication Skills

Chapter Director: Our Chapter Directors are our leaders in local communities around the globe. They directly implement our mission of support-connect-empower by providing resources, recruiting and managing volunteer teams, hosting events, and acting as a liaison between BSF and the host installation. Because this role requires a significant commitment, there is an official screening process. Interested parties should email their resume and two character references to the Director of Membership at Bianca@bluestarfam.org.
Support Volunteers: The support volunteer role is essential to keeping Blue Star Families' wheels turning. The main responsibility includes assisting the Chapter Directors with growing and maintaining the Chapter. They also perform various functions including administrative duties, event planning, and outreach. The Support Team is the backbone of each location, and the amount of volunteers needed depends on the needs of the military community. Special Events Volunteers: The special events volunteer role includes involvement when the Chapter hosts a BSF event, such as Books on Bases or Operation Appreciation. Some other responsibilities may include event set up and break down, interacting with the attendees, and managing sign-in sheets. It is an ideal role for someone interested in working with a local chapter but who may not have a consistently flexible schedule. The special events that Blue Star Families hosts are crucial to our mission and we value our volunteers regardless of their time commitment.
