Introducing Blue Star Families new Books on Bases Program Manager
Janet McIntosh is joining Blue Star Families as the Program Manager for the Books on Bases Program. Janet served two and a half years in the U.S. Army as an active duty soldier and another six years in the U.S. Army Reserves. Her husband, SSG McIntosh is also an active duty soldier in the U.S. Army. Together they have been living their military journey for over 15 years. They have been stationed at Fort Hood, where Janet was a volunteer for their unit’s Adopt-A-School program.
From there, they were stationed in Germany, where Janet worked with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDs) for three and a half years. While in Germany, Janet’s husband completed two tours in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Janet also remained an active volunteer in her community, working with her unit’s FRG and volunteering for the Girl Scouts of America.
After their tour in Germany, Janet and her family moved to Fort Eustis, VA. While at Fort Eustis Janet continued her volunteer work, teaching AFTB classes, volunteering as an AFAP Facilitator, and sitting on the board of the Fort Eustis Spouses’ Club. Janet also began her work with Blue Star Families while at Fort Eustis as a volunteer. In 2010, Janet was named Army Wife Network’s HH6 winner. Janet continues her work to this day with Army Wife Network as a member of their core team.
In 2011, Janet’s husband came down on orders for recruiting and her and her family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where they currently live. Janet continued her work with Blue Star Families, becoming a Chapter Director for Atlanta and Fort Benning. Even though this is her first time in a remote area away from the military community she is used to, Janet continues to use her time to volunteer. She currently volunteers on the board of two PTA’s and is the Treasurer for her Battalion FRG.
Janet has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Western Governors University. Janet and her husband have two children, Aiden (5) and Alina (12). Janet is excited to be moving forward with Blue Star Families as the Books on Bases Program Manager. She is passionate about military families and is devoted to making this journey easier for other spouses. Janet knows a life in the military is full of ups and downs but also knows there can be many rewards as well. She is eager to pass on her knowledge and experience to other spouses.
