Some SWEET news to share!

The rain came, but that didn’t stop Alaska’s military families from getting to their library—or their ice cream!

Blue Star Families teamed up with the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) Consolidated Library for their summer reading program kickoff event on the 25th of June. Ice cream sundaes were served to over 200 military family members. The ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, and sprinkles were yummy, bringing smiles to all faces in spite of the intermittent raindrops. Each child and adult received a book as well from the Blue Star Families Books on Bases program, and each family that enrolled in the library’s summer reading program also received a bag with lots of goodies.

The JBER Consolidated Library’s summer reading program theme, Reading is Sooooo Delicious, coincided nicely with the BSF ice cream treats, served by the Blue Star Families team of Alaskan volunteers.

Just a few days later, BSF sponsored another event at the JBER library. This time, visiting Minnesota author Karen Pavlicin-Fragnito with Elva Resa Publishing read several of her favorite books in a special story time. Each of the military families in attendance received a book from Elva Resa Publishing. There were even books for the moms from BSF’s Books on Bases program! Everyone left with a big smile of their face looking forward to reading their new books before bed that night.

Both events were loads of fun and were a terrific opportunity to spread the word about Blue Star Families’ mission to support, connect and empower military families.
