Americans from all walks of life will unite to honor active military, veterans and military families this Veterans Day—11/11/11. With the support of Bank of America, Habitat for Humanity of Washington, DC, and Blue Star Families, ServiceNation will host a signature service project in Northeast DC. General Stanley McChrystal will join 50 volunteers from Bank of America and Blue Star Families who will donate their time to help construct four Habit For Humanity homes in the low-income neighborhood of Ivy City in Northeast DC.

In recent years, a number of us have gotten together to observe Veterans Day in a new but very appropriate way: We’ve honored service with service. Joining with communities and organizations around the country, my colleagues from Blue Star Families have tackled projects ranging from the environment and children to homelessness and hunger, and of course, the quality of life for our nation’s veterans and military families.

This Thursday, Veterans Day, hundreds of civilian and military volunteers will join together to thank our veterans and their families for their service, through a service project of their own. Volunteers will be packing care packages for military families across the country, including those in Hampton Roads.

This weekend launched the holiday season for Blue Star Families.  On Veteran's Day, Service Nation, Target, PBS's This Emotional Life and BSF held an event to pack "thx boxes" for military families.  Now comes the fun part - handing out hundreds of gift bags to excited military families!

On Wednesday, Blue Star Families joined with Service Nation to celebrate Veterans Day, write letters for BSF's Operation Appreciation, and pack hundreds of thank you care packages for the families of deployed service members.

Blue Star Families is thrilled to be part of Service Nation's Veteran's Day event.

Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden will join ServiceNation on Veterans Day to launch Mission Servce: Forging a Continuum of Service.  Blue Star Families, Student Veterans of America and military and civilian leaders will celebrate service organizations and the strength they add to our nation.
