Today, Craig Newmark, founder of craigslist and craigconnects, announced a month long campaign to highlight and support nonprofits helping military families and veterans. Blue Star Families and three other organizations will receive more than $100,000 in craigconnects grants to support our work for military families, but we need you!
Last year the U.S. lost more troops to suicide than to combat. According to the Department of Defense, more than 1,100 members of our military committed suicide between 2005 and 2009. That is an average of one suicide every 36 hours. Every day 18 American veterans attempt to take their lives.
