Blue Star Families hosts chapters around the country and overseas and it's easy to get involved and become a partof our dynamic team. The goal is to utilize our Volunteer leaders to tell us what your community needs so we can better serve them with resources and programs.  We also relay information to Congressional decision makers. (updated 4/23/13) LOGISTICS SUPPORT COORDINATOR: The Support Coordinator position is a volunteer position ideal for someone who is looking to take on a supportive role at our Herndon, VA  Location.   If you live  in the Northern Virginia area and interested in joining our BSF team - this is your chance.  The Support Coordinator will provide support with receiving, sorting, distributing letters while providing logistics support at the warehouse.  This volunteer opportunity requires 10 hours per week on Tuesday and Thursdays during business hours at our location in Herndon, VA/Dulles Airport.  Please send your resume and cover letter to hr@bluestarfam.org

(updated 4/23/13) OPERATION APPRECIATION COORDINATOR: The Coordinator position is a volunteer position ideal for someone who is looking to take on a supportive role at our Herndon, VA location and work independently.  The Coordinator will work with the Operation Appreciation Program Manager and the rest of the Programs team to solicit, collect, and sort letters for Operation Appreciation. Volunteer opportunity requires 10 hours per week. Manage regional Operation Appreciation activities and mail flow. Read and sort all letters prior to distribution with regional Operation Appreciation volunteers. Maintain database of letters sent and received for the region. Follow up with participating organizations and individuals willing to send or receive letters. Seek out organizations/groups regionally and nationally to write letters for Operation Appreciation. Assist in seeking out individuals and organizations that are willing to distribute letters to military families, service members, and veterans. Please send your resume and cover letter to hr@bluestarfam.org

Special Events Volunteers: The special events volunteer role includes involvement when the Chapter hosts a BSF event, such as Books on Bases or Operation Appreciation. Some other responsibilities may include event set up and break down, interacting with the attendees, and managing sign-in sheets. It is an ideal role for someone interested in working with a local chapter but who may not have a consistently flexible schedule. The special events that Blue Star Families hosts are crucial to our mission and we value our volunteers regardless of their time commitment.
